In an interview with US edition of ELLE magazine, Rita said: "That should never be allowed. It's like somebody telling you what to sing."
The singer also boasted how she managed to barter a free dress from Marchesa designer Georgian Chapman to wear to the MTV Europe Music Awards last year.
Rita, 22, turned heads on the red carpet in a stunning red gown with an embroidered bodice at the ceremony in Frankfurt, Germany.
She said: "I went up to [Marchesa designer Georgian Chapman] and said, 'Hi, I'm Rita. Nice to meet you. I need to wear your dress.' She was like 'What dress?' They've got 10 million dresses. I said, 'Look, I have your dress as the screen saver on my phone. This red dress needs to be on my body.' "
