Rihanna is taking legal action against Topshop because they used an "unflattering" image of her on their T-shirts and she has branded the quality of the garments "poor", according to High Court papers.
The 25-year-old star is allegedly demanding $5 million from the UK high street chain after they used a picture of her with her hair tied up in a bandanna on the clothing, and a claim filed by the brunette beauty and her lawyers Reed Smith claims she would have never allowed the photograph to be used.
One section in the High Court papers - which were filed in March last year and have been obtained by the Daily Mirror newspaper - reads: "The base image of the first claimant [Rihanna] is of such an unflattering nature that it would not be approved."
Rihanna hit out at the "low-quality image" and also slammed the quality of the tops - which feature a snapshot from her 'We Found Love' music video - as "poor", with the garments described in the papers as "a product that would not have been authorised by the first claimant".
Despite reports claiming Rihanna is suing the retailer for up to $5 million, there are no figures in the court papers, and there is no mention of the $5,000 Topshop owner Sir Philip Green has allegedly offered the star in compensation.
Topshop were said to have been in talks with Rihanna about a settlement but matters are now heading to Her Majesty's High Court of Justice in London this summer after eight months of unsuccessful negotiations.
