Miuccia Prada thought fashion career a dumb move

The fashion designing legend, Miuccia Prada never wanted a fashion career as she thought it would it would be a "dumb" move for her.

She said: "To want to be a fashion designer was really the worst thing that could happen to me. I thought it was dumb and conservative. But my education at home pulled the other way, giving me a taste for beautiful things, an instinct for fashion. I adored that."

Miuccia has enjoyed a hugely successful career in fashion and believes it's down to the fact she has always needed to be innovative and original ever since she was a child.

She told the Guardian newspaper: "I had to be the first one to have an idea. The same obsession still drives me in my work, never doing things like the others. It's been a constant strand in my life."

However, Miuccia recently revealed she is worried the Italian fashion industry could fall into "second league".

She said: "With the sale of our luxury labels to foreigners, our entire system risks falling into second league.

"Because if our brands cross our borders, the credit, glamour, fame and decision making is in the hands of others, and we are abandoned, downgraded."
